Our Story

How it all started...

In July 1956, a tent crusade was conducted in Lacombe by Evangelist Paul Olsen.  This resulted in a group of people, who became affiliated with the PAOC.
After the Crusade, Mr. & Mrs. Raisbeck served as pastors for a time.  Later Mr. Len Matz also gave leadership to the Assembly and students from the Northwest Bible College came to assist.
A parsonage was purchased for the Pastors, church meetings were held in the I.O.O.F. Hall and later in the Legion Hall.
In 1957, Rev. and Mrs. Jack Keys came as Pastors.  The church now felt the need for a building of their own.  To gain finances to purchase land, they endeavored to sell the parsonage for the cost of $3,000, however, Rev. Keys painted the house and it was sold for $3,800.
A basement was dug and finished.  While the main sanctuary was being constructed, the Keys family lived on one side of the basement and services were held on the other side.  The church building was started in 1958 and took 1.5 years to build using volunteer labor and buying material, as finances allowed.
The Keys Family remained until 1960, and were appointed as missionaries to the West Indies.
Following Pastors that served:
Rev. & Mrs. Harvey C. McAlister (1960-1961)
Rev. & Mrs. Egan Roller (1961-1964)
Rev. & Mrs. Mel Jenkins (1964-1968)
Rev. & Mrs. Frank White (1968-1970)
Rev. & Mrs. Harvey C. McAlister (1970-1974)
(1974-1976, the church was without a Minister)
During 1974, Rev. Cameron of Sylvan Lake commuted for services during the absence of the pastor.
Mr. & Mrs. Sid Ruffo of Edmonton commuted for Sunday Services from 1976-1977.
1977 -1980, Rev. Rudy Schappert was called as Pastor and served until the fall of 1980.
Then in 1980, Pastor & Mrs. Dean Steel came to minister in the Lacombe Church.

Expanding the vision...

Following Pastor & Mrs. Dean Steel
Pastor Dwight Brown served from 1986-1992
A new building was constructed and finished on 50th Ave in Lacombe, which helped with visibility &  accessibility.
The church kept growing in numbers with a vibrant kids',
and youth program.
In August 1992, Reverend Mark Running moved to Lacombe with his family and served with excellence for 30 years as Lead Pastor.

Where we are going now

In 2002, God gave this church a new vision for growth and LPC moved into a new building
which used to be a RV maintenance lot.
This location has served this church well and will continue to for years to come.
Following Pastor Mark Running in January 2023 came the new and current Lead Pastor,
Pastor Bryan Darnell.
To this day, we still have vision, we still have new beginnings,
and we believe God is calling us to keep growing,
keep moving, and keep expanding!
This church is 68 years old and here is what we believe.
God has called us to be a conduit of reformation and revival for the churches in Lacombe and surrounding areas.
It is no secret to this world that church attendance is withering, staggering and lagging …
but we don’t see that here … and we don’t say that with a boastful voice in anything else than look what God
has done and look what God is doing.
God is doing a new thing!
And as One Heart, One Church, we are excited to follow the Lord's Leading.
